Isaac and Katie’s story started in the spring of 2007 when Isaac added Katie on Facebook. Isaac was a senior at MIT and Katie was a freshman at Purdue. Isaac was trying to decide where he wanted to go to graduate school (Purdue was on his list of possibilities) and added Katie because she was at Purdue (and had the same last name).
For spring break, Isaac and Brad (Isaac’s best man) decided to make a trip to Purdue and Michigan on Isaac’s quest for the perfect graduate school. Isaac offered to meet up with Katie, but Katie lied and said she had a few exams to study for and papers to write so they did not meet in person at that time.
As it came closer to the summer time, Isaac and Katie began talking more online through AIM. Katie was living at home for the summer and Isaac was working in Washington, D.C. Katie had mentioned to her dad, Mike, that she was talking to a guy whose last name was Tetzloff and they both wondered how they were related. They had to be related since they had the same last name, right?
One night, Isaac and Katie started talking about family history. Isaac said that his knowledge of his family lineage was limited but e-mailed a copy of the family tree that he had made in middle school to Katie. Mike and Katie pulled out their family tree and started to compare the Tetzloff lineage. As far as they could tell there was no relation (and they went as far back as the late 1700s to Katie’s great-great-great-great grandfather).
As summer turned to fall and classes started up at Purdue, Isaac and Katie continued talking online. That semester, Katie was taking an astronomy class and asked Isaac if he could help her (anyone who knows Katie well knows that science and math are not her forte). Isaac gave her his phone number and they spoke on the phone for the first time.
A few weeks into the semester Isaac was giving Katie a hard time about something (imagine that) and she was teasing him and said that he wasn’t very nice. He said, “I’m really a nice guy, let me take you to dinner to prove it to you.” Katie agreed, but decided to take a good friend of hers with her since she had never met him in person and only recently started talking to him on the phone.
After their first in-person meeting, Isaac and Katie became very good friends. There was a lot of speculation in Katie’s family that the two were dating, but it wasn’t until right before Christmas break that Isaac asked Katie to be his girlfriend. That was on 12.13.07 and seven years later they’re getting married on 12.13.14.
